The Board of Directors is responsible for governance of Solar Education Fund and provides guidance to and oversight of the staff.

Evan Ramsey

(Bonneville Environmental Foundation)

President
Evan is a specialist in renewable energy systems and leads the project development and management activities for the Bonneville Environmental Foundation (BEF), a 501(c)3 non-profit, which breaks down barriers to renewable energy adoption with innovative and creative solutions. BEF seeks to expand renewable energy access to enable a more equitable and sustainable energy system. Prior to BEF Evan worked 8 years at SolarCity in engineering, operations, and project management roles. Evan has worked on hundreds of small scale renewable projects with partners such as Fortune 500 companies, local governments, universities, non-profits, and utilities. Evan is an accredited solar installation professional certified by the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP). Evan hopes to grow Oregon's solar industry into an meaningful and integral part of our clean energy economy.

Oriana Magnera

(Verde NW)

Board Secretary
Oriana Magnera is an outreach and policy advocate for the NW Energy Coalition. She is focused on building strong partnerships with environmental justice communities and making policy processes more transparent and accessible, including work on community solar in Oregon. Before entering the energy industry, Oriana worked in education policy, focusing on career-technical education and she has years of nonprofit experience. She holds a BA in Women’s and Gender Studies and Comparative Ethnic Studies from Columbia University.

Patricia Daniels

(Constructing Hope)

Board Member
Patricia Daniels guided her organization from the former community development corporation to the Constructing Hope Pre-Apprenticeship Training Program. She developed training curriculum with industry partners at Northwest College of Construction, Hoffman Construction and Pacific Northwest Carpenters Institute, receiving state certification in 2007. Under her leadership, Constructing Hope has increased job placements from 16 to 83 annually. She has developed direct entry with carpenters, laborers, electrical, cement masons, sheet metal, ironworkers, brick layers and Northwest College of Construction apprenticeship programs.

Ms. Daniels was raised in Mississippi and NE Portland. She earned her MBA at Concordia College and, as an African American woman, worked her way up from secretarial duties to Executive Director. She is an active member of her church community.

Jana Gastellum

(Oregon Environmental Council)

Board Member
Jana Gastellum is Deputy Director for Programs at Oregon Environmental Council.

Jana spent the past decade as OEC's Climate Program Director, leading state and regional policy campaigns to bring about healthy, low-carbon and equitable communities. This included passing bills to expand access to clean fuels, renewable energy, and energy efficiency as well as advancing policies to limit and price carbon pollution.

Jana has deep experience building coalitions, doing policy research and development, and advocating for climate policies. She regularly testifies in Oregon's state legislature. She previously worked on the UN Foundation/Energy Future Coalition climate team where she helped launch the 25x’25 renewable energy alliance, a joint initiative with agricultural and forestry leaders. She received a B.S. and M.S. in Earth Systems from Stanford University.

When she’s not working, Jana enjoys biking with her husband, hiking, trying new recipes, and puddle jumping with her daughters.

Jaimes Valdez

(City of Portland)

Board Treasurer
Jaimes Valdez works for the City of Portland Bureau of Planning and Sustainability, focused on the launch of the groundbreaking Portland Clean Energy Community Benefits Fund. Before taking this position, Jaimes worked for Spark Northwest, where he covered regulatory, market and legislative policy issues and worked to create communities powered by affordable, locally-controlled clean energy. He has more than 

15 years of experience in energy issues, including in project development, energy planning, utility marketing and public advocacy towards an equitable, clean energy economy. In 2012, he spent a year as a Robert Bosh Fellow in Germany researching cooperatively-funded renewable development and grid integration. He holds a bachelor’s degree in physics and environmental studies from Whitman College.
